The picking and placing of unwrapped products, pots and tubs, snacks, flow wrapped packs, trays, cartons, electronic components are some of the vast array of products we have worked with. High speed pick and place systems can be provided for many applications however the challenge is often around the presentation of the product, product identification and method of picking the product. CKF’s design and engineer teams have the experience to identify these challenges at the concept stage and provide reliable and robust solutions.
The Solution – How can CKF help my business?
Every challenge is different, although many of the solutions we provide will involve the use of ABB Flexpicker robots which can handle loads up to 8kg and offer a pick rate of up to 110 per minute.
Product identification may involve registering the product on the infeed system or, more often than not, an integrated vision system. Robot tooling is designed in-house by CKF to suit each solution individually and could incorporate vacuum, fingers, pins or clamp arrangements, depending on the nature of the product. Solutions designed by us include the capability to handle up to 420 pots per minute, using a multiple of robotic Flexpickers, each picking up a different product type to provide a mixed pack directly into a flow wrapper infeed. We programme Flexpickers to pick and place with precision.
Test and trial – How does CKF minimise downtime?
To ensure that the solution is factory ready and to reduce or eliminate downtime, we use the latest 3D inventor design software and imported info into Robot Studio where our talented engineers simulate the operation of the robotics to check key design criteria including cycle time, reach etc.
Only when the system is in perfect synchronisation do we move to the installation stage.
Müller, the UK’s largest yogurt producer with capacity now at two billion pots per year, commissioned CKF to upgrade and re-engineer an existing re-pack line that was under performing and over-reliant upon manual intervention, with responsibility to design, install and commission a fully automated solution, utilising much of the current equipment and within the same floor space.
